“A very important step has been taken towards an eventual settlement,” RIA Novosti quoted the Kremlin representative as saying.

According to him, now the work, based on this first important step, will continue under the auspices of the UN.

On January 19, a meeting on the Libyan settlement was held in the capital of Germany with the participation of Russia, the USA, Turkey, Egypt and other countries.

The summit was attended by Faiz Sarraj, head of the Government of National Accord (PNS) and Khalifa Haftar, commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), but failed to organize direct negotiations between them.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that an agreement has been reached on a comprehensive plan for resolving the conflict.

In turn, the acting head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov, said that the final document contains provisions on a sustainable ceasefire.
