The first medical cargo planes provided by the Qatar Red Crescent arrived in Khartoum yesterday, Sunday, with two additional shipments arriving in the next few days.

The shipment includes various medicines and medical materials, weighing approximately 70 tons, for the total of the three batches.

The Secretary-General of the National Council for Medicines and Toxicology of Sudan, Imad Abu Zaid, thanked the Sudanese Ministry of Health for the State of Qatar for its support provided to the Sudanese people, through its intervention in the crisis in the Darfur region and the processes of establishing peace and providing aid.

The General Director of the Relief and Development Sector for the Qatari Red Crescent, Abdullah bin Hassan Al-Mahashadi, said that the medical shipment was provided in cooperation with Sidra Hospital in Qatar, adding that medical services are at the forefront of the activities of the Qatar Red Crescent in Sudan, as well as relief and development projects.

Qatar has fulfilled its pledges of $ 177.4 million to the donors' conference held in Doha in 2013, and the conference participants have pledged to raise $ 4.5 billion to reconstruct the western Sudanese region of Darfur.
