Actor Robert De Niro, considered one of the best movie actors of his generation, won the Screen Actors Guild award in honor of his entire work and used this occasion to direct indirect criticism of President Donald Trump.

De Niro won the award given annually after 50 years during which he starred in films including "The Deer Hunter" (The Deer Hunter) and "Reggae Bell" (The Angry Bull) and the second part of the series The Godfather's Movies in addition to comedies including "Meet the Burns" (To meet the parents). He won two Oscars and starred in the Oscar-nominated "Irishman" (Irish).

After his ascent to the stage on Sunday evening to receive the award amid a warm welcome from the audience, De Niro attacked President Trump again without mentioning him by name, as the president faces a trial in the Senate this week related to accusations of abuse of power and misleading the Congress.

"There is right, there is a mistake, there is sound logic, there is abuse of power, and I, as a citizen, have the right like others ... to express my opinion," de Niro said.

"I have a louder voice because of my standing, and I will use it whenever I see blatant abuse of power, and that's all I can say tonight."

Then he thanked his colleagues who gave him the award in honor of him for all his work and received the award.

Although De Niro, 76, was notorious for his lack of speech at public events, and the keenness to keep his personal life private, he was known to be one of Trump's most critical critics outside of political circles.

In 2018, he criticized Trump for broadcasting the Tony Awards ceremony live from one of Broadway theaters, where De Niro was the presenter. Trump responded by writing a tweet in which he described the actor as a "very petty individual."
