According to her, she entrusted the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building and the Defense and Security Committee with the established procedure to consider the candidacy of Igor Krasnov for the post of Prosecutor General.

Matvienko said that a joint meeting of the two committees is scheduled for January 21.

“If approved, the appointment of the attorney general will be submitted to the next meeting of the Federation Council, January 22,” said the Speaker of the Federation Council.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed the Federation Council to dismiss Yuri Chaika from the post of Attorney General of Russia in connection with the transfer to a new job.

At the same time, the President submitted to the Council of the Federation Igor Krasnov for the post of Prosecutor General.

Krasnov is Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
