The driver, suspected of having fatally and voluntarily struck a police officer during an intervention, was indicted for "intentional homicide", we learned this Monday from the Lyon prosecutor's office. The man was placed in police custody since last Thursday before being brought before the investigating judge in charge of this case today.

"He admits to having been the driver of the vehicle which struck the police officer. On the other hand, he denies having intended to kill him, "specifies Nicolas Jacquet, the public prosecutor of Lyon, adding that a decision whether or not to place in pre-trial detention should be known during the day.

Police officer Franck Labois, 45, died on January 13 of his injuries. Two days earlier, he had been run over by the driver of a van during an operation in Bron, on the outskirts of Lyon, as part of an investigation into cargo thefts and armed robberies. A first suspect, aged 15, was charged with "theft followed by violence resulting in death".
