“We have to work out and legally formalize a mechanism for a nationwide vote on the package of legislative initiatives that have been developed both within the framework of the presidential bill and the package of amendments to the Constitution proposed by the members of our working group,” the co-chairs of the working group said in a statement.

Earlier it became known that the working group will submit its proposals to the Federal Assembly for consideration.

On January 15, during a message to the Federal Assembly, Russian leader Vladimir Putin proposed introducing a series of amendments to the main law, including toughening the requirements for candidates for the presidency and fixing the status and role of the State Council.

He later signed a decree establishing a working group to prepare proposals.

As Putin noted, the meaning of amendments to the fundamental law is to ensure the development of Russia as a legal, social state, increase the effectiveness of the country's institutions, strengthen the role of civil society and political parties, as well as regions in the development of major decisions.
