A court in Paris has opened a judicial case following the dissemination of videos showing a man with a bloody face being hit on the ground by a policeman . The event took place during the demonstrations of the 'yellow vests' this Saturday.

The investigation has been opened for " voluntary violence by a depositary of the public authority, " as reported by the General Inspection of the National Police.

"The police chief has asked the Directorate of Public Order and Circulation (DOPC) to focus on this action," the police headquarters told AFP.

As can be seen in the images spread through social networks , the protester was on the ground in front of the Eastern station when the policeman dealt him at least two punches.

Another angle of the scene, filmed by AFP television around 2:30 pm, allows the demonstrator to lie on his stomach, handcuffed and screaming in pain.

Thousands of 'yellow vests' paraded at noon on Saturday in Paris with anti-Macron, anti-police and anti-pension reform slogans . In total, 60 people were arrested, of which 45 were taken into custody, according to authorities.

Last Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron pressured the Interior Ministry to demand quick "proposals" to "improve the ethics" of law enforcement.

At least three judicial investigations have been opened in Paris for police violence committed on January 9 in the demonstration against pension reform. On December 6, another investigation was initiated following videos showing two policemen beating a person on the ground during the demonstration of the previous day against said reform.
