A 22-year-old young man was shot and killed on the night of Saturday to Sunday in a street in the 14th arrondissement of Marseille. "The track of the settlement of accounts is privileged", according to the prosecutor of the Republic of Marseille Xavier Tarabeux.

The victim was killed with a Kalashnikov-type weapon while leaving a restaurant in the northern districts, said the public prosecutor of Marseille, confirming information from the newspaper La Provence. According to the regional daily, the facts occurred around 12:45 am, in the city of Merlan. Despite the intervention of the emergency services, the victim could not be resuscitated and was declared dead. No less than twelve sockets were found on the ground.

If the thesis of the settlement of accounts is confirmed, it would be the first death of the year linked to a settlement of accounts around the trafficking of narcotic products in the Marseille region. In 2019, ten men died for this reason in the department, according to a count of the Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture of police. The last settlement dates back to December 30, when a man in his thirties was shot Sunday in the head and another injured, in a Marseille gymnasium while playing football .
