The German Foreign Minister noted the different approach of the United States and Europe towards Iran.

“Although the United States unilaterally abandoned the nuclear agreement and moved to maximum pressure, we want to achieve progress through negotiations. France, the UK and Germany want to keep the agreement in place to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons, ”said Meath.

He also called for "not pretending" that the situation in Iran would automatically improve after a regime change, recalling the events in Iraq.

“We must talk with Iran and demand respect for human rights. In any case, pure threats and military escalation did not bring anything. We want to prevent a fire in the Near and Middle East, ”the German Minister emphasized.

According to him, Europe is aimed at diplomacy, and not at escalation in relations with Iran.

Earlier, Maas called on Russia to influence Iran in order to comply with the terms of the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear deal.

On January 5, Tehran announced the final step in reducing its obligations under the JCPOA.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called Tehran’s decision on a nuclear deal a forced step against the backdrop of contradictions between the JCPOA participants.
