"It is clear that you are wondering what this may be due to," says Lena Altgård, who is a district nurse in the municipality for more than 20 years.

She assumes that many of those over the age of 100 have a good social safety net with family and friends around them. She also says that she can see a common trait in those who are very old and it is about a positive outlook on life and a desire to be able to take care of themselves.

- And it is obviously also about being healthy, she says. But my own theory is that they have a large network of friends, family and acquaintances around them.

Often self-propelled

Lena says that many in the group very old are solution focused and try to arrange a lot on their own.

- They are often self-sufficient and arrange food and curtains and other things.

- You get so fascinated sometimes when you come home to this group of people. They have baked and they have cleaned and fixed and kept families and relatives together. I often experience them as very healthy and with a healthy behavior, says Lena Altgård.

Turn in the lottery

She says it is important that from the care and care side, it takes a little quiet in the contacts with the elderly group and does not take over, but encourages healthy behavior.

- It is very easy otherwise you do it, you think that oh, you are so old, so then we will help you. But they can and they do well.

What exactly is the explanation that there are so many 100-year-olds in Lessebo in relation to the municipality's population is unclear.

- It can also be about luck in the lottery, says Lena Altgård.
