The French Clara Direz won her first Alpine Ski World Cup victory on Sunday by winning the parallel giant slalom in Sestriere (Italy) ahead of the Austrian Elisa Mörzinger and the Italian Marta Bassino.

Direz, 24, had until then only one Top 10 in the World Cup, with his 7th place at the end of December during the giant slalom of Lienz (Austria). She also finished 8th in giant at the world championships in Are (Sweden) in 2019.

On Sunday, during the first parallel giant in the history of the Women's World Cup, she managed an impeccable course, eliminating along the way the American Mikaela Shiffrin, triple defender of the title of the general classification of the World Cup, or the Italian Marta Bassino, one of the best current specialists of the giant.

In the final, she took the best on Mörzinger, another surprise finalist since she had never finished in the first 30 at the World Cup.
