A couple suspected of the murder of a man whose body was found Friday morning in a pond in Isère, was in police custody Saturday for an indictment for "assassination", said the prosecutor's office in Grenoble. The latter should intervene on Sunday, with provisional detention, according to the same source. The couple, a 27-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, were arrested around 6 p.m. Friday by gendarmes from the Isère research section and gendarmerie group.

Saturday morning, during his interrogation, the suspect "admitted to being the murderer" of the victim, a man "with whom they had made an appointment at the edge of the pond to explain," said the public prosecutor in Grenoble, Éric Vaillant. "The woman has also just recognized, in the afternoon, her participation in the events," he added.

Identified by his vehicle

The victim is a 49-year-old man who, according to the prosecution, "harassed his former partner and the latter's new companion" in recent times. He was formally identified by his vehicle, which was parked near the pond.

It was a witness who warned the gendarmerie brigade of La Mure, Friday morning, that a body was floating on the surface at the edge of the Crey pond, a small artificial body of water prized by walkers and fishermen. According to the medical examiner, the death dates back a few hours and could have resulted from blows to the head. According to the prosecution, details must "still be provided on the course of events."
