The body, discovered on January 11 in a hedge near the Béziers hospital, is that of a patient who went missing on October 26, 2018. The dental comparison examination performed on Friday made it possible to formally identify this man, reports Raphaël Balland, the public prosecutor.
The patient had been partially identified at the start of the week, thanks in particular to the discovery “on his wrist of a name bracelet from the department from which he had run away, clothes identical to those he wore on the day of his disappearance and forensic findings made by forensic pathologists compatible with his illness, "said the representative of the prosecution.
He intended to end his life
The investigation, launched in October 2018 by the police as part of this worrying disappearance, reports "that the disappeared patient knew he was medically condemned and that he had announced to his relatives his intention to end his life. Video surveillance attests that the patient left the hospital at 7 a.m. through the main entrance on October 25, 2018, while leaving his personal belongings in his room, including his telephone, with the exception of one Opinel found by the medical examiner in the immediate vicinity of the body. "
Research had been organized on October 26, 2018, near the hospital. About twenty police officers, a dog and hospital staff had participated in this beaten down, in vain. A call for witnesses had been launched, and investigations had been made into the bank for the disappeared, the bus transport company serving the hospital and the SNCF station. Again, without success.
We do not know the precise causes of his death
The autopsy of the body, carried out Tuesday by the forensic institute of Montpellier, did not make it possible to determine the precise causes of the death of this man. However, noted at the beginning of the week the prosecution, the examination of the skeleton excludes the presence of any fatal fracture.
The conclusions of the investigation will therefore be transmitted to the Béziers public prosecutor's office for classification without further action, in the absence of elements allowing to suspect that this patient would have been the victim of a criminal offense, concludes the public prosecutor of the Republic.
