According to him, the consultations were difficult, but the United States and Russia expressed mutual interest in resolving the issue and further negotiations at the expert level on a separately defined agenda.

"In principle, all this is not bad, but there is a point related to the fact that at least we still do not have an understanding in which direction the conceptual idea in Washington regarding future arms control is moving," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the readiness of Moscow and Washington to continue the dialogue on strategic issues.

The US Department of State, in turn, noted the importance of going beyond the bilateral format in the issue of arms control.
