17 January 2020 The migratory route of the eastern Mediterranean (+ 46%) and the Balkan one have recorded new increases in flows in 2019, while there are drastic drops on those of the central Mediterranean -41%; and western, -58%, with the lowest levels since 2013.

Frontex preliminary data for 2019 show an overall drop of -6%, to 139 thousand, 92% less than the peak of 2015. Frontex executive director Fabrice Leggeri spoke at a press conference. "Developments in Libya are an important factor, which we monitor carefully, because they could have an impact on the central Mediterranean route," he added.
