VIP stands for Very Important Person and is usually reserved for royalty, heads of state and other particularly important people.

But in this case, they are selected people with intellectual disabilities or mental illness.

Through the courses, functional support management wants to increase the participants' self-esteem, understanding the consequences of violence in relationships and teach the participants to set boundaries.

- I've become more confident. In the past I was unsure of my situation. Now I know more, thanks to the course, says Caterina Kristensson, one of the participants.

Another of the participants is Zarina Izmagiq, who is also very positive about the VIP course.

- Without the course I would probably still have thought that much of the hard work that had happened to me would have been my fault. I probably didn't dare come out and test new things. Maybe still thought that I have to change others before I change myself.

Women meet women and men meet men

- The course is available for both men and women. We rarely have mixed groups, says Ann-Helene Westerdahl, Development Coordinator at the Functional Support Administration in Malmö.

- There are men who say that it is unusual to sit in a group and talk about emotions. Once you have done that, you mean that it felt good that there were only men in the group. This means that you open up more than you might have done otherwise and dare to tell what you have been through.
