When other residents found themselves in common areas of the LSS housing, employees locked the apartment door about themselves and the residents, who were deemed to pose a risk to their neighbors.

This has been the case for several years.

"The aim of the measure has been to protect the residents and co-residents," says Marie Strömberg, Head of Operations at the Health and Care Administration in Helsingborg.

May lock in emergency

Now, the administration, which has been investigating how protection measures are used within the unit for some time, has come to the conclusion that the incident is taken seriously.

- Sometimes we end up in emergency situations where lock-in may be necessary. But you must not work in a strenuous way in that way. In addition, the resident's consent is required, says Marie Strömberg.

How should the others on the property be protected now?

- We try to look at other ways of working to avoid lock-in, for example by finding activities to stimulate the residents. At the same time, we must work so that others are not exposed, ”says Marie Strömberg.

Can't open the door myself

The investigation shows that the resident cannot open a locked door himself due to his disability. The residents have shown in different ways that they wanted to get out when the door was locked.

The administration has now reported the incident, according to Lex Sarah, to the Inspection for Health and Care (IVO).
