Lara is 12 years old, studies in a concerted school and does extracurricular activities. We are in 2012. Pass the subjects and go to violin classes at the conservatory, English, swimming and on weekends, to the youth club of the parish. She looks like a normal girl, until at school she meets a teenager who connects her with the group of adults that will break her childhood from rennet. What comes next are years of hospitalization in juvenile centers supervised by the Mallorcan Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS) , sexual abuse, drugs and child prostitution. Today she is 20 years old, but her mother refuses to forget that ordeal: «They drugged and abused my daughter when she was a supervised child. It is not an isolated case, it has been going on for a long time and they lengthen in time without anyone doing anything ».
«I knew that this situation was going to explode and finally it has. I count all this because it is time for them to start doing things as they play, for other children and for parents. It is indecent that they guard the children of others sitting from a desk, ” denounces Maria. «They took it from me after a month and a half disappeared and I was the only person who looked for it every day. They took her away saying that she was at risk of helplessness, when nobody knew who I was or how she lived, ”recalls that time when she swept the streets of Palma looking for Lara, her lost girl, the youngest of her three daughters. María (fictitious name as well as her daughter's) decides to tell her case to EL MUNDO after this week the Consell de Mallorca has recognized 16 cases of sexual exploitation of internal minors in its IMAS centers. The group rape of a supervised minor aroused the alarm about a possible drug network and prostitution of internal children in these centers.

When Lara meets her new friend at school, a teenage girl of 16 and pregnant, everything changes. Suddenly, at 12 years old, he already wants to put on makeup, put on heels ... They start fighting with his mother and, for the first time, he takes bad grades. Before he turns 13, he goes to his father's house, where "there were no schedules, he could leave and disappear for days." There he begins to escape with these new companies.
At that time, he denounces his mother for abuse, although in the end she is dismissed. From one of those escapes, she becomes ill at the house of Maria, who takes her daughter to the pediatrician, where she is diagnosed with an STD: "She denied having had sex and using drugs, nobody reported anything because she denied everything."
40 days missing
Lara has been running away for almost a year to go with that group of adults that her new friend introduced her. With them he frequented bars and discos. Also floors. On August 29, 2013 he escapes again and his mother denounces his disappearance. For 40 days, Maria looks for her daughter in the neighborhoods that the girl frequented, fills them with posters with her photo . He knocks on the portals of the people he suspects he is, they close the doors, they insult her. Call the Family Police Service of the National Police (SAF), which "does nothing": "These people put my daughter in an apartment for a month and a half, she said they drugged her and how the men queued in the room to sleep with her. Once they got him so much that he ended up vomiting while having sex with one, the next one took the vomit off the mattress and abused it right there. What he never knew is if they charged for these sexual relations.
Maria one day receives a call from a woman: «It was a kind of kidnapping. He told me that he would deliver me to the Plaza de España ». While running in search of her daughter, she calls the SAF again, who manages to arrive before her: «They didn't stop the two women my girl was with and when they took her statement, they forbade me to be present and didn't even attend my request that was explored by a coroner ». From there, to the Social Services and the loss of the guardianship of his little daughter.
At age 12, the pediatrician diagnosed an STD and at 16 became pregnant with a 37-year-old man
In the report of the Consell de Mallorca it is argued that "there is a history of child protection" in the eldest daughter of María (who was also in an IMAS center for a while). Also, that her husband's separation “was conflicting; that there were situations of physical and verbal violence in the presence of the girl; and difficulty in establishing limits and norms. In the brief, they indicate «emotional negligence towards the child; lack of protective attitude », among other reasons.
«In the IMAS they said that I was at risk with me, although I was always the one who maintained it, even when I was with them I was the one who paid for their school supplies, all their expenses, who looked for it and worried. But they told me that I couldn't be in my house and they gave me the choice between giving it to their father's sister, whom I didn't know about anything, or admitting her to a center for re-education. I chose the center thinking that, as they said, they would help her, ”explains María. She was admitted to Can Mercadal and within a week she was already fleeing. From there he went out so quiet through the door, saying goodbye, ”he recalls.
"There are girls who have escaped for years"
When Lara escaped, from the center they called her mother: «They were limited to report to the Police, I went out to look for her and when I found her I had to return her. They told me they couldn't keep it, that their protocol forbids it. They told me that this happens very often and that there are girls who have been missing that way for years, without anyone doing anything ». «I saw my daughter getting worse, I knew she was running away to leave with these people, because I had hooked her on drugs. I fell into a depression, I was totally blocked, I didn't know what I had to do. At that time I had already fought with many people from IMAS . They always treated me badly, as if I was doing something wrong.
After Can Mercadal, they move Lara to another, Son Roca, "from that one had to jump a wall to escape, but he did the same." At 16 years old, she is still supervised by the IMAS and escaping to leave with the adults who give her drugs and exploit her sexually. From one of those leaks, she becomes pregnant "with a 37-year-old boy."
One of the times her daughter goes to her, she decides to send her with her sister to Boston, where the baby is born. Shortly after he returns to Palma and ends up in a social apartment for single minor mothers. Today he is 20 years old, takes care of his son, studies in an adult center and works as a waitress. «I don't know if IMAS has put it on that list of 16 sexually exploited internal minors. Maybe not, with us they always threw balls out. Nobody did anything, all I ask is that responsibilities be cleared of everything that happened to my daughter after they took it away from me.
