Muqtada al-Sadr leader on Thursday sent assurances to demonstrators of the popular protests that have been going on since the beginning of October regarding the million-dollar demonstration he called against the foreign presence, after reports spoke of fears in their ranks of clashes between the two parties.

"The two demonstrations, Nuran from Siraj One, stoke the blessed tree of reform," Sadr said in a tweet on Twitter.

"O the authentic Iraqi people, oh brave revolutionaries against corruption, continue with us, there is no country with occupation, no sovereignty with corruption, no security with terrorism, and no freedom with militancy," Sadr added.

A millionth date
Saleh Muhammad al-Iraqi, close to the Sadrist leader, had set the date for the January 24th demonstration that Sadr had called for, on Friday, January 24th, indicating that it would be in Tahrir Square, central Baghdad, and would turn into sit-ins and demonstrations.

In his tweet on Twitter, Al-Iraqi recommended "to abide by the Iraqi identity only and to demonstrate for reform because the occupier is a corrupt master," and to prevent the disclosure of any form of religious, ethnic, military or other affiliation.

He pointed to the need to commit to raising the Iraqi flag only during demonstrations and to preventing chants that offend the non-occupier.

This comes amid fears of protesters in Tahrir Square to suppress their ongoing protests since the first of last October. The demonstrators are calling for choosing an independent government, holding early elections, fighting corruption and improving living conditions.
