• The fact: The girl raped in Palma de Mallorca reports that other guardians "are prostituted"

  • Investigation: Police and Civil Guard deny that there is a network of child prostitution in Mallorca

The Balearic Prosecutor's Office has decided to initiate criminal investigation proceedings to address the alleged cases of drug trafficking and child prostitution under the Mallorquin Institute of Social Affairs ( Imas ). In addition, the superior chief of the Police has been freed to investigate the facts and identify the alleged perpetrators.

From the Prosecutor's Office on Wednesday they avoided using the word "network" to refer to the facts that have now been known and that could represent only a small part of the sexual exploitation and child abuse on the island. In a statement, the Public Ministry referred to different "specific cases" that, "as it cannot be otherwise, have always been investigated."

The Delegation of the Government in the Islands also insists on denying the existence of networks that capture minors to end up forcing them to prostitute themselves. Her head of the Coordination Unit of Violence on Women, Julia Vázquez , pointed out Wednesday to the media that have only detected "different cases" of an individual nature.

The appearance of Vázquez took place minutes after holding a meeting with the National Police, the Civil Guard and those responsible for the Imas, during which the actions to be taken after the outbreak of a scandal that has fully splashed the Consell de Mallorca and the management of the supervised centers is carried out by the island entity.

Its president, Javier de Juan , continues to maintain that the protocols have not failed, nor in the case of the child allegedly raped in a group last Christmas Eve in an apartment located in the Palmesan neighborhood of Korea.

Announce an informational blackout

De Juan stresses that young people cannot be deprived of liberty who, as in the case of the Consell dependents, have not committed crimes. Sources from the insular institution explain that in the most difficult cases to treat, minors are relocated to existing centers in rural areas of the foreign part, in order to move them away from especially harmful enclaves, such as floors and bars that function normally. in Son Gotleu , where, according to the testimony of the girls themselves, "young people" are prostituted and "everything" is obtained, including drugs and alcohol.

At the moment, and while the political and media storm does not stop, from the Imas they already announce the closest thing to an informational blackout that will restrict any declaration or information regarding the centers of minors for the sake, Javier de Juan maintains, to safeguard the well-being and the intimacy of the young people protected.

The head of the Imas also claims to the media that "do not put the focus" on children under guardianship to "not victimize them."

Finally, they announce from the Consell de Mallorca the commissioning of a commission -in which they invite to participate both the municipalities of the island that want to join as well as entities that make up the so-called third sector- which, they understand, will reinforce the Fight against these cases.

Meanwhile, the opposition in the Consell demands that the action protocols be improved in cases of child sexual exploitation. The spokesman of the PP, Llorenç Galmés , remarks that "the silence" of the president of the Consell, Catalina Cladera , regarding the cases of prostitution of minors in charge of the Imas "is shameful".

For its part, the spokeswoman for Citizens at the Consell, Beatriz Camiña , asks for "a review" of the protocols, and from the IP , Xisca Mora criticizes what she considers a "lack of political management." Finally, Vox understands that the meeting held on Wednesday between Imas officials and the other parties is "a pantomime."
