Alba González Sanz announced on Wednesday that she resigns to be the new general director of Equal Treatment and Racial Ethnic Diversity, under the Ministry of Equality led by Irene Montero, as announced by the mayor of Podemos-Equo in Gijón.

After this resignation, this position will be held by Rita Bosaho, a militant of Podemos and of Equatorial Guinean origin, sources from the Ministry have informed Europa Press.

With Spanish nationality but born in Equatorial Guinea, she became the first black woman to get a seat in the Congress of Deputies in 2016 after presenting herself as head of the list for Alicante of the Compromís-Podemos-És coalition at the moment.

Degree in History from the University of Alicante, she has completed a master's degree in Identities and Integration in Contemporary Europe and stands out for her political commitment in the fight against racism and the defense of human rights.

He has developed his greatest professional work in the field of human rights and in the defense of women's rights, with special attention to situations of injustice in Latin American and African countries.

Rita Bosaho will occupy the position to which Montero had nominated Alba González, who on Wednesday said goodbye to his colleagues in the City of Gijón before the last plenary session, stressing that it would be an "honor and a pride" to work with Irene Montero.

However, it has decided to take a step back to make the presence of "racialized groups" more visible in the Ministry , although it has been made available to Montero to collaborate in the fight for equality.

"If something we know in feminism is that representation and the symbolic matter. We have reorganized the team of this ministry so that there is a visible presence of women belonging to racialized groups. That means that I will not assume the General Directorate," González said in social networks.

Along these lines, he explained that the functions and content of the General Directorate of Equality "were broader than has been interpreted" and, in this regard, explained that he accepted this position "with the determination to work for equality" and given his experience of topics such as economic redistribution or parity.

González has sent a message of "courage, good luck and good sense" to Rita Bosaho in her new position and has made herself available if something can be useful "in the task, wide and diverse, that lies ahead."
