Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska wants to propose as current Director General of the Civil Guard to the current sub-delegate of the Government in Malaga, María Gámez.

Great- Marlaska does not have the approval of Defense. The appointment of this position must be joint, Defense and Interior, not unilateral by a single ministry. The differences between Grande-Marlaska and Margarita Robles, head of Defense, are again evident.

Grande-Marlaska tried, first, to appoint Carmen Rodríguez Medel as a substitute for Felix Azón, a judge who instructed the summary of the Pablo Casado Master case. Nor did he reach consensus on his appointment. In fact, when the name of this candidacy was leaked without having probed to the other ministry, the discomfort between both departments increased.

According to sources close to the selection process, at this time it is a question of evaluating the candidate very well to try to avoid more strains. They remember the confrontations between Marlaska and the outgoing Felix Azón, despite the fact that they were both friends for many years and Azón himself, in the General Council of the Judiciary, opted for Marlaska as president of the National Court.

María Gámez, current sub-delegate of the Government in Malaga, has a degree in Law and a degree in Business Management. He worked for two years in the office of the ombudsman in Seville. He was linked to positions of the Andalusian Board of the PSOE, mainly in the Ministry of social affairs.

Between 2004 and 2008 she was Delegate of the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Business of the Junta de Andalucía in Málaga and, between 2008 and 2010, she served as Delegate of the Government of the Junta de Andalucía in Málaga. At the municipal level, he has been councilor of the Malaga City Council and spokesman of the socialist group in the Consistory of Malaga. She has also been a member of the Federal Executive of the PSOE, Secretary of Health of the Regional Executive of the PSOE of Andalusia and President of the Executive of the PSOE of Malaga.
