The SUV vehicle had been spotted by a rescue helicopter that had flown over the mountainous area of ​​Butte Meadows. Inside was 68-year-old Paula Beth James, as reported on Twitter by the local sheriff's office.

Butte Meadows is approximately 322 kilometers northeast of San Francisco.

The woman, who hails from Oroville, 80 kilometers from Butte Meadows, is now in hospital in stable condition. She had disappeared on January 9th.
