• A Albacete denounces at the National Court the incident of the ball in the Christmas Lottery draw: "There is no coherent explanation"
  • The 2019 Gordo controversy: what did this employee get into the hype?

The Prosecutor of the National Court has urged Judge Alejandro Abascal to request from the State Lottery and State Betting Society (SELAE) information on the incident that occurred in the Christmas raffle , when an operator introduced a ball in one hand of the drums.

Several individuals denounced the fact after seeing images on social networks that unleashed all kinds of conjectures, some of them even referred to a hypothetical attempt to manipulate the draw. To try to stop the controversy, Lotteries issued shortly after the popular raffle a statement in which he said that what the employee had introduced was a ball that had fallen.

One possibility, which according to the agency, is contemplated in the regulation: "One of the circumstances envisaged in the process of introducing the balls in the drums is that some may bounce outwards." The statement explained that, in that case, "the operator responsible for the introduction of the balls in the bass drum must proceed to its manual introduction into it."

Dissatisfied by that explanation, a private individual filed with the National Court the first complaint for an alleged crime of fraud that fell on Judge Abascal. He asked the Prosecutor's Office to rule on whether investigation proceedings should be opened or the case filed directly.

The Prosecutor of the National Court, far from requesting the file, has considered that this instance is competent and therefore proposes that the judge ask the State Lottery and State Betting Society (SELAE) report on "the incident reported."
