Seven elected Democrats have been named to lay charges in Trump's trial before the Senate. They will be led by Adam Schiff, chief prosecutor in the Donald Trump impeachment trial. OLIVIER DOULIERY / AFP

As part of Donald Trump's removal from office in the United States, the impeachment of the President was officially passed by the House of Representatives. The indictment was transmitted to the Senate.

The head of the Democrats in the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi signed the indictment this Wednesday, January 15 before sending it to the Senate. The trial will begin "genuinely" next Tuesday, announced the Republican majority in the Senate, Mitch McConnell. It will be adjudicated by the President of the Supreme Court, John Roberts, who is to be sworn in on Thursday before swearing in the hundred senators who will serve as jurors. The American president called the whole procedure " a scam ".

Seven elected Democrats have been named to lay charges at the President's trial in the upper house. They will be led by California representative Adam Schiff. This former prosecutor is a central figure in the impeachment hearings before the Chamber. And therefore one of Trump's beasts, the president booed him at each meeting and demanded his arrest for treason, mocking his physical appearance. He even smears it with the nickname "shifty Shiff" that is to say Shiff the deceitful, recalls our correspondent in San Francisco, Eric de Salve .

I'm humbled by the solemn responsibility of serving as lead House Manager in the Senate impeachment trial.

Together, the Managers will work on behalf of the American people in defense of our Constitution.

The House upheld our Constitutional duty. The Senate must do the same.

His team of six Democratic accusers is made up of three women, two black, one Hispanic. But also and above all four candidates for the primary including the two favorites Élisabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, two other bums of Trump and figures of the Democratic left wing.

A political trial for the Republicans

This last vote in the House once again highlighted the very clear partisan division over impeachment. With one exception: all Democrats voted for it. But all of the Republicans voted against it.

The task before us is a serious but necessary one.

Donald J. Trump tried to get a foreign nation to help him cheat in the next election.

For that reason, he was impeached.

And for that reason, the only remedy is conviction and removal from office. pic.twitter.com/rjT673texi

Adam Schiff once again accused the President of " putting his personal interests before those of the nation by asking Ukraine to help him cheat to win the election ". The Republicans respond to his heart that this trial is political, led by hatred of Trump . " He did nothing wrong, " said the White House. " He is impatient to be cleared by the Senate ", which is hardly in doubt since the Republicans are in the majority.

Donald Trump is the third president in history to undergo such a test. He is accused of having put pressure on Ukraine to investigate the democrat Joe Biden, well placed to face him in the presidential election in November, in particular by freezing military aid crucial for this country in armed conflict with Russia. The White House tenant is also accused of obstructing the Congressional investigation by prohibiting members of the administration from responding to the injunctions, and by pressuring witnesses.
