Former Liberal Democratic Party's Katsuyuki Kawai, a former Minister of Justice, responded to a reporter's report after the Hiroshima District Public Prosecutor's Office had entered a search for his wife's House of Representatives as a relevant party on the suspicion of violation of the Public Office Election Law. On the other hand, he denied leaving the party or resigning.

The Hiroshima District Public Prosecutor's Office has been searching the office of the Liberal Democratic Party's House of Representatives, Kawai Kanri, and his husband, Mr. Katsuyuki Kawai, as a related party, on March 15, suspected of violating the Public Office Election Law.

In response, Katsuyuki Kawai, who had not appeared in public for more than two months since resigning from the Minister of Justice at the end of October last year, interviewed reporters in Tokyo on the night of March 15.

Katsuyuki Kawai said, "I would like to apologize for the inconvenience. I would like to refrain from commenting because the investigation has started as a criminal case. I will cooperate fully with the investigation."

He said, "The Diet has been absent, thinking that it should not interfere with the deliberations. He attended the medical treatment of his wife who issued a medical certificate, but he normally wants to fulfill his duties as a member of the Diet. "And willing to attend the ordinary Diet session starting next week.

"I would like to explain at an appropriate time, taking into account the progress of the criminal case and whether there is any hindrance to the investigation."

On the other hand, he said he did not think about leaving the party or resigning from lawmakers.
