Paris, London and Berlin announced on October 14 that they would initiate proceedings against Iran to respect its commitments made under the Vienna agreement. According to the Washington Post , an ultimatum from the Trump administration was hidden behind this European initiative.
A Washington Post source says "extortion". According to the American daily, Donald Trump has clearly blackmailed Paris, London and Berlin, threatening them with new taxes on the import of European cars if they do not engage the mechanism for resolving disputes with Iran.
France, the United Kingdom and Germany, the three signatories to the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal, have done so. On Tuesday January 14, their foreign ministers jointly announced that they would initiate proceedings against Iran . The latter forced the Islamic Republic to comply with the text of the nuclear agreement, on pain of a return of international sanctions.
Nothing says, however, that American blackmail was necessary, because the Europeans had signaled for several weeks their intention to trigger this dispute settlement mechanism, notes the American daily.
Because Tehran, strangled by American sanctions, has renounced its commitments which previously guaranteed that its civilian nuclear program does not turn into a military program with the key to the development of an atomic bomb.
