Ring neck 2 was closed at the turn of the year and in 2020, reactor 1 will also be closed. According to Ringhals and Forsmark's CEO Björn Linde, it is not realistic to continue the reactors because large investments in safety need to be made.

The politicians do not agree that it is the right decision to close the reactors. The Swedish Democrats, together with the Moderates, the Christian Democrats and the Liberals, want to stop the liquidation.

Therefore, SD wants to postpone the closure

According to Mattias Bäckström Johansson, energy policy spokesperson for the Sweden Democrats, the electricity from nuclear power can enable a climate change.

- This is electricity that we can either export or use in industry. There is still a lot of coal power in Europe and if this electricity is exported to those countries, we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by almost 8 million tonnes, which corresponds to all car traffic in Sweden for a full year. That if anything should be a climate policy for real, said Mattias Bäckström Johansson (SD), energy policy spokesperson, in the Morning Studio.

Rating is postponed

On Wednesday, the issue was debated in Parliament, but voting was postponed. Only on January 22 will the Riksdag vote if the closure is to be postponed.

- It is, as Vattenfall says, impossible to continue the reactors because they have not invested in them in recent years. We are an industry-friendly party, but we are not prepared to tax nuclear power, but think it is more important to invest in welfare than to cling to old dirty technology, said Mathias Tegnér (S), during the parliamentary debate.
