Now Lund Municipality together with LKF, Lund Municipality's property AB, wants to ensure that homeless families and children within the municipality are offered apartments.

By giving LKF priority to the peasant dwellers who currently rent their housing through the municipality, apartments are released to families and children who do not have their own housing. The municipality also hopes to find a number of private landlords who can contribute with apartments during 2020.

- Through close cooperation with LKF, private landlords and the social service, we hope to be able to solve the situation for the Lund residents who are homeless in a more sustainable and long-term way, writes Sara van Lunteren, head of the housing department at the service administration in Lund Municipality, in a press release.

The municipality believes that the work of supporting families with children in precarious housing conditions is a priority, and that the causes of the increased homelessness are many.

- The most common reason for people becoming homeless in Lund is that they lack anchoring in the housing market. In recent years, many new arrivals have been assigned to Lund and their relatives have since applied to Lund. They are all far behind in the housing queue and also have no relatives or other networks to help, writes Göran Wallén (M), chairman of the Social Committee, in the press release.
