“We categorically and strongly condemn the sanctions against the deputies of the National Assembly of Venezuela, who represent the whole people. Foreign countries should not be allowed to try to influence the activity and freedom of conscience of our parliamentarians, ”RIA Novosti quoted Venezuela’s parliament as saying.

It is noted that such actions only hinder the establishment of an atmosphere of mutual understanding in the country.

Earlier, the US Treasury Department added seven Venezuelan citizens to its sanctions list.

It was reported that they included MP Luis Parra, who was elected the head of the Venezuelan National Assembly based on the results of the vote.

Later supporters of the Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido said that he would remain as speaker of the country's parliament for the next term.
