The Sudanese army announced today to reduce its forces in Yemen from five thousand to 657 soldiers.

A spokesman for the Sudanese Army's Rapid Support Forces, Brigadier Jamal Jumaa Adam, said that a "simple" group remains of the Sudanese forces in Yemen, the last force present there representing 657 individuals.

He added, "Even the Sudanese forces headed back to (the capital) Khartoum," noting that his country's forces had defensive missions within the Saudi-Emirati coalition forces there.

He explained that "the Sudanese forces present in Yemen were operating within two sectors, the Emirates sector inside Aden (south), and the Saudi sector that extends from the Saudi-Yemeni border, while the Sudanese forces on the defensive fronts were still working with the coalition forces."

It is noteworthy that Sudan has been participating in the Yemen war led by the Saudi-Emirati coalition since March 2015, and Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamduk announced on December 8th that the number of Sudanese forces operating in Yemen at that time is five thousand.

In press statements upon his return from Washington, Hamdock said that his country "has started to withdraw its forces from Yemen gradually," and revealed that the number "has decreased from 15 thousand soldiers to 5 thousand soldiers."
