Severely burned man after self-immolation in front of the European Parliament

A man of Albanian origin was evacuated to Hautepierre hospital on Tuesday afternoon. He was badly burned on the face and hands after trying to set himself on fire in front of the European Parliament, a police source explained to 20 Minutes , confirming information from the Latest News from Alsace.

The victim set his body on fire around 4 p.m. while a demonstration by Guinean nationals was taking place nearby. Some members of the procession came to his aid, according to the regional daily. The CRS then sprayed him with a fire extinguisher and he was able to be taken care of by the firefighters.

The motives for his gesture remain unknown for the moment.
