Norwegian Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide (Right) left the message on Tuesday. A 29-year-old woman from Oslo, who was part of IS, is to be taken home to Norway with her children. The woman and children have already been taken from Syria to Iraq, according to NRK.

Want to save sick five year old

At a press conference on Tuesday, Eriksen Søreide explained that the government has been trying to find a solution for the family for a long time. One of the children, a five-year-old, is seriously ill and needs medical care. The mother refused to leave the child and finally the decision was made that she could come with her.

- We in the government have not wanted to help the return of adults who have joined IS. But now that it was necessary for us to be able to bring home a sick child, Høyre, the Christian People's Party and Venstre joined forces for an extraordinary effort, ”says Eriksen Søreideenligt NRK.

"Don't want to lift a finger"

But the decision also faces criticism internally within the government. The fourth government partner, the right-wing populist Progress Party (FRP), criticizes the decision.

- FRP wants to be clear that we do not want to lift a finger for IS warriors and IS women to return to the free, western societies they hate. IS warriors and their sympathizers have turned Norwegian society back and are fighting for our country and our values, says Sylvi Listhaug, Minister of Petroleum and Energy and Deputy Chairman of the Progress Party, according to NRK.

The discussion on how IS supporters should be handled has been held in all Nordic countries. In Denmark, those who have joined IS can get rid of their passports. In Finland, a decision was made recently to bring the children home but to try to avoid bringing home the adult IS supporters. The Swedish government has expressed itself in similar terms but the exact way it is going to be is still unclear.
