The force is no longer with Facebook: Mark Hamill, known worldwide for having interpreted Luke Skywalker in the saga "Star Wars", announced that he left Facebook, angry at the refusal of the social network to control political advertisements on its platform.

"So disappointed that #MarkZuckerberg values economic profit more than the truth that I decided to delete my Facebook account," he tweeted Sunday evening, referring to the boss of the social network.

"I know a lot of people will say 'We don't care', but I will sleep better at night," added the 68-year-old actor, who is still very much on Twitter.

Like Mark Hamill, many voices have denounced Facebook's decision not to control political ads on its platform, despite the risks of misinformation in the run-up to the US presidential election in November.

In 2016, the behemoth of social networks had been accused by the left of having participated in the election of Republican Donald Trump, by letting a company use the data of millions of users without their knowledge, and by failing to prevent the propagation of disinformation posted online by a Russian pharmacy close to the Kremlin, to help the candidacy of the republican billionaire.

Facebook confirmed last week that it would only exceptionally censor political advertisements, even false ones, saying that it was up to the public to sort it out.

Twitter has decided to ban political advertising from the network.
