This is stated in a statement by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, published on the website of the State Department.

According to Pompeo, "in his official capacity, Plahotniuc was involved in acts of corruption that undermined the rule of law and seriously threatened the independence of the democratic institutions of Moldova."

It is clarified that Plahotniuc is now deprived of the right to obtain US entry visas.

Earlier, a court in Chisinau issued a mandate for the absentee arrest of Plahotniuc.

Also, the Tver court of Moscow decided to arrest him in absentia on charges of organizing a criminal community.

In June 2019, the media reported that politicians and businessmen who are associated with the Democratic Party of Moldova are leaving the country.
