The National Police have arrested a young man of 22 years for trying to steal with a knife in a supermarket near the Puerta de Toledo, in the center of Madrid, police sources have reported.

The 22-year-old man of Angolan nationality went to the supermarket on Sunday at 4:40 p.m. on 51st Street in Bailén, in the La Latina district.

Armed with a kitchen knife, he threatened and intimidated the employees of the establishment to steal, according to the sources, who said that the clients went away scared of the place of the boxes where the thief was.

Before a citizen's call and the warning of one of the workers, who went out to the street to ask for help, agents of the Police Intervention Unit (IPU) or riot police entered the place equipped with a ballistic shield and armed with a submachine gun to reduce to the man.

Finally, the robber was arrested although he faced great resistance, in an event in which there were no injuries.

The man, born in 1997, has no record, according to the same police sources.
