Emmanuel Macron announced on Monday the dispatch of 220 additional soldiers to the Sahel to strengthen the Barkhane force which is fighting jihadists in the region.

"I have decided to engage additional combat capabilities, 220 soldiers will reinforce Barkhane's troops" (which already has 4,500 men), said the French president after a summit with the presidents of the countries of the G5 Sahel (Chad, Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania) in Pau.

Emmanuel Macron had warned before this summit that he would put all options on the table, even that of a withdrawal or a recession of Barkhane. It is the opposite that he decided.
