January 13, 2020 "I hope that the permanent ceasefire will come soon" in Libya. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says so at the end of the meeting with Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, speaking of the diplomatic work underway in Moscow. "We appreciate the Italian efforts to reach the goal" added Erdogan. "We are in close contact with the Italian Prime Minister. We had a business lunch. He is a dear friend," said Erdogan. "We talked about Libya, Syria, bilateral relations. This weekend there is a summit in Berlin. Putin and the Italian Prime Minister Conte will participate," added Erdogan.

"After my conversation with Guterres I can say that there may be a probability of a UN presence" in Libya: "as observers" the United Nations may be present ", the Turkish president said.

Count: precarious truce without political path
"These are very delicate days, Italy and Turkey face common challenges: terrorism, migratory flows, instability in the Middle East and in the Mediterranean. It is very important that our countries can cultivate constant confrontation, close political dialogue. We shared with Erdogan the urgent need to end the escalation on Libyan soil to ensure a lasting ceasefire ". The Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said this at the end of the meeting in Ankara with the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. "The ceasefire can be a very precarious measure if not included in an effort by the international community to guarantee stability in Libya. And for this we have shared the opportunity to speed up the Berlin process".

Then he continued: "I appeal to all Libyans: every day with every behavior they assume they decide their future, if they want one of prosperity and well-being and want to open up to full democratic life they will always find an ally in Italy, because they don't it aims at interferences that could condition a future scenario of full autonomy and stability ".

Italy supports for Libya the "path already designed under the aegis of the UN. The EU will have a great role in Berlin but Turkey and Russia will have it too", said the prime minister. At the Berlin conference "Libyan actors will also be there: it is not possible to talk about Libya unless there is an inclusive approach. Here it is a political process," said Conte
