Donald Trump warned the Iranian regime on Saturday that "there could not be another massacre of peaceful demonstrators", in reference to the protest movement that took place in the country last November. “There cannot be another massacre of peaceful demonstrators, nor a shutdown of the Internet. The world is watching, "the President wrote on Twitter.

Several hundred students gathered Saturday night in Tehran, in response to an invitation to honor the 176 victims of the Ukrainian Boeing, mostly Iranians and Canadians, including binationals, shot down "by mistake" by an Iranian missile on Wednesday. The United States also called on Iran to apologize for the arrest of the British ambassador at the rally.

More than 300 dead last November

Protests that broke out in mid-November in Iran to protest a sharp increase in the price of gasoline left more than 300 people dead, according to the NGO Amnesty International. Internet access had been cut several times, notably after calls for commemoration launched on social networks, a month after the demonstrations.

To the brave, long-suffering people of Iran: I've stood with you since the beginning of my Presidency, and my Administration will continue to stand with you. We are following your protests closely, and are inspired by your courage.

"To the brave Iranian people, who have suffered for a long time: I have been by your side since the beginning of my presidency, and my administration will continue to be by your side," Donald Trump tweeted on Saturday in English and Farsi. "We are closely following your demonstrations, and your courage inspires us," he added.

Also in 2009, tens of thousands of people demonstrated to protest the disputed re-election of populist and ultra-conservative President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. These demonstrations were violently suppressed by the security forces.
