The Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, headed today, Sunday, to the Iranian capital, Tehran, to meet President Hassan Rouhani, in light of the tensions in the region following the killing of the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, General Qassem Soleimani.

The Qatar News Agency said in its Twitter account that Sheikh Tamim is heading to Tehran on an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to support and strengthen them.

The agency added that the two sides will discuss the latest developments in the region, and regional and international issues of common concern.

Soleimani and Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Authority, and others accompanying them were killed in an American missile strike that targeted two cars on the road to Baghdad airport on January 3, which left the region on the brink of war between the two countries, before the tension between the two sides decreased.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs visited Tehran about a week ago, and during the visit, Rouhani and Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif met, and during the visit, they discussed regional developments, especially in Iraq, led by the assassination of Soleimani.
