Gérald Michaud is one of the 46,000 Haitian refugees living in the United States who are threatened with expulsion by a decree from the Trump administration ending the temporary protection status, TPS, granted to Haitians after the 2010 earthquake.

In the Flatbush district of New York, today nicknamed "little Haiti", city councilor Mathieu Eugène supports and advises Haitians who live in fear of having to leave their adopted country.

Gérald Michaud launched legal proceedings last year against Donald Trump, whom he accuses of racism against Haitians. In January 2018, the American president had treated Haiti and certain African states of "country of shit".
