The hunt for the border wolves in the so-called Römskogs reviret was to start on New Year's Day, but at the last moment the message came from the Norwegian Ministry of the Environment - all hunting in the revert is stopped with reference to contacts with the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.

"Swedish authorities have been clear that they do not want the wolves in this area to fall," writes Norwegian Environment Minister Ola Elvestuen (Venstre) in the decision, which stirred up feelings on both Norwegian and Swedish side.

One of those who responded is the Swedish MP Kjell-Arne Ottosson (KD), who lives in the area himself.

- This is about Swedish authorities who intervene in internal political affairs in Norway. Again, it shows that you do not care about those who live and work in the area, he says.

"Not suitable for hunting in border foxes"

In its opinion, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency states, among other things, that approval of the hunt for border flocks would be unfortunate, and that it would risk the work of achieving and maintaining a favorable conservation status on the wolf tribe in Sweden.

- This is about a border reef according to the criteria we have set up together, and then the Norwegians should ask us about our assessment. After all, we have set up the wolf hunt in Sweden this year because the trunk is too small to withstand hunting, and then we do not think it is appropriate to hunt in a border area, says Gunilla Skotnicka Ewing, head of the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.

A field approved for hunting

The Norwegian predatory game committees had originally decided to hunt for three flocks inside the so-called wolf zone, the area along the thermal land border, which is the only one set aside for wolf flocks in Norway.

The reams of the forest were to be completely emptied of wolves - provided the wolves were on the Norwegian side of the border when they were shot.

After the appeals have been processed, only the hunting in the Letjennareviret at Eleverum has been approved.

"Could lower the level of conflict"

Kjell-Arne Ottosson (KD) is disappointed.

- This could have lowered the level of conflict around the wolf on the Swedish side as well.

But this is a borderline and you have followed the rules?

- I do not think that you have enough documentation on the Swedish side to classify it as a boundary reef. In addition, it is important for those who have known the pressure of wolverine for many years to show that someone takes some kind of consideration.
