London (dpa) - Liverpool FC continues to march from victory to victory on the way to its first Premier League title in 30 years.

The team of coach Jürgen Klopp won the new edition of the Champions League final at Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 (1-0), marking the twelfth league success in a row. With 61 points from 21 games, the Reds are now even better than Manchester City two years ago, which had earned 100 points at the end of the season. Roberto Firmino (37th minute) scored the decisive goal for Coach Klopp's team, who also achieved a prestige victory over coach rival José Mourinho.

In a fast-paced and competitive match, Liverpool earned thanks to a strong first half the success of their London rival, who will face RB Leipzig in the round of 16 in the Champions League. Despite a catch-up game, the upholstery of the premier class winner is now 16 points after Leicester City had previously lost 2-1 to Southampton FC. Manchester City with coach Pep Guardiola is 17 points behind Liverpool in every 21 games played.

The defeat for pursuers Leicester came as a surprise, after all, the second in the table had taught the team of coach Ralph Hasenhüttl a 9-0 swatter in the rear series. Dennis Praet's (14th) early goal was not enough for the 2016 champions, Stuart Armstrong (19th) and Danny Ings (81st) turned Saturday's game for the Hasenhüttl team. For Leicester it was the fifth defeat of the season, on Sunday (5.30 p.m.) Man City can still pass with a win at Aston Villa.

The 1-1 draw in the London city duel between Crystal Palace and FC Arsenal was overshadowed by an ugly foul by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on German Max Meyer. The former attacker from Borussia Dortmund brutally kicked the ex-Schalke on the ankle and was punished according to video evidence with a smooth red card - previously the referee had only shown yellow. «Hopefully Max Meyer will be fine soon. I really didn't want to hit him that hard, »Aubameyang wrote apologetically on Instagram.

Manchester United (4-0 against Norwich City) and Chelsea (3-0 over Burnley FC) were able to look forward to clear home wins in the fight for international ranks.
