Russian President Vladimir Putin said he hoped the hostilities in Libya would stop at midnight tonight in response to the Russian and Turkish call, while a military leader affiliated with the Libyan National Accord government spoke of a partial withdrawal of Russian Wagner mercenaries from two axes of fighting in Tripoli.

The Russian President stated - at a press conference after today's talks in Moscow with German Chancellor Angela Merkel - that the time has come to hold peace talks on Libya in Berlin, noting that the hostilities in Libya negatively affect the region, and have other repercussions on European countries.

In an indirect indication of the presence of Russian mercenaries fighting alongside retired Major General Khalifa Hifter, Putin said at the press conference, "There are Russian citizens in Libya but they do not represent the Russian state, and they do not receive any money from its government."

For her part, Merkel said she hopes that Moscow's efforts to secure a truce between the warring parties in Libya will succeed, stressing that her country "is trying to hold an international conference in Berlin on the Libyan crisis," and it is expected that the conference will be held at the end of this month.

Putin and Merkel spoke today about efforts to stop the fighting in Libya and push the parties to the conflict to the (Anatolia) dialogue table.

Putin and Erdogan
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian Vladimir Putin called last Wednesday, in a joint statement after their meeting in Istanbul, for a ceasefire in Libya that begins midnight, and the Presidential Council of the internationally recognized government of Accord welcomed his invitation, while Khalifa Haftar's forces refused this invitation. And announced its intention to continue the military operation.

Haftar's forces have launched a massive attack on the Libyan capital, Tripoli, since early April last, with the aim of extending control over it. Al-Wefaq forces have been able to repel this attack.

In a related context, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoغلlu said that Russia should persuade Hifter to stop the fire, and Turkey persuaded the Libyan legitimate government headed by Fayez al-Sarraj to stop the fire.

The Turkish Foreign Minister stated - at a press conference in Ankara - that Haftar is a party to the crisis in Libya, but he does not have any legitimacy, and that the legitimate party in Libya is the Saraj government, and therefore Turkey is in contact and dealing with it.

Wagner's mercenaries
On the field level, the command officer of the ISG-affiliated government, Nasser Ammar, said that the mercenaries of the Russian Wagner Company had begun partial withdrawal from the axes of Salahuddin-Yarmouk and Al-Khulasat-Abu Salim, adding that the withdrawal was monitored after the meeting with Putin and Erdogan.

The Libyan military leader added that helicopter gunships transported Wagner mercenaries from Tripoli to the Al-Jafra air base in southern Libya.

Ammar said that Haftar had thrown Russian mercenaries into the battle of Tripoli for mastering the street war, noting that Al-Wefaq forces had foretold this matter and did not give Haftar the opportunity to lead a street war in the capital.

Study disabled
Because of the clashes and indiscriminate shelling, the Tripoli Municipal Center announced today the suspension of the study for a week in order to preserve the safety of students and teachers.

The attacks of Haftar forces resulted in tens of thousands of children being deprived of education. A statement issued by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) last Monday stated that 115,000 children were deprived of education due to the recent escalation of fighting in Tripoli, and that five schools were destroyed and 210 others closed their doors. .
