An intern in internship at the Lille University Hospital committed suicide during the night of Monday to Tuesday, outside the University Hospital and the medical school, we learned Friday from concordant sources. “She was being taken care of for health problems. Her gesture affects us all, in particular her colleagues, colleagues and sisters who welcomed her when she arrived in November 2019 ”, write Frédéric Boiron, the director of the establishment, Dominique Lacroix, the dean of the faculty, and François- René Pruvot, president of the medical establishment committee, in a press release.

"The teams who worked with her were very shocked," said a source at the CHU. A medico-psychological emergency unit was deployed from Tuesday morning at the hospital center. In a press release published on Friday, the National Union of Young General Practitioners (SNJMG) "recalls the urgency of taking concrete action to establish decent working conditions for interns who will not endanger their health or that of the patients ”.

Precedents

"Unfortunately, this is not the first time that we have been confronted with an intern who is dying," said Emmanuelle Lebhar, spokesperson for the SNJMG, while specifying that he did not know the circumstances of the drama. "Interns are faced with particularly demanding working conditions, it can lead to situations of physical and mental exhaustion".

In August 2019, an executive from the Flers (Orne) hospital had put an end to his days at his workplace, while in February, a surgeon had killed himself at the Avicenne hospital in Bobigny.
