“The detention of our ambassador in Tehran without reason or explanation is a gross violation of international law,” the British Foreign Ministry quoted Raaba as saying.

The minister added that at the moment, the Iranian government is at a crossroads.

He specified that Iran could continue the path leading to political and economic isolation, or take the path of de-escalation and diplomatic settlement.

Earlier, the British Ambassador to Iran, Robert Makar, was detained for several hours for organizing the protests, which took place on Saturday, January 11, in Tehran.
