US Bloomberg has used the classification of jobs for victims of the Ukrainian plane, to shed light on immigration to Canada and its success in achieving Canadian policy aimed at making immigration beneficial to it without raising political tensions.

Of the 167 who died in the disaster of the Ukrainian plane that crashed over Iranian soil last Wednesday morning, 63 Iranians hold Canadian citizenship and all are doctors, engineers or PhD holders, the website said.

In its report, entitled "Victims who hold Canadian citizenship represent a microcosm of immigrants to Canada," the website explained that Canada has followed a different approach, at a time when many governments are trying to make immigration beneficial to them without raising political tensions, noting that Canada welcomed expatriates New arrivals last year at the fastest pace in decades.

Population increase despite declining fertility
The site stated that about 12% of post-secondary education students in Canada are international students, adding that last year Canada absorbed 437,000 immigrants, which contributed to achieving a record increase in its population during decades despite the decline in the fertility rate among its population.

The site quoted the senior policy analyst at the Canadian "Canadian CD Institute" Barisa Mahboubi as saying that immigration has become a factor in economic and cultural development in Canada, and with the slow growth of the population, the contribution of migration to the growth of the workforce and even the tax base has become more important.

Mahboubi added that the Canadian approach to immigration may be one of the reasons that only 27% of Canadians consider immigrants a burden on their country, which is the lowest percentage among the 18 countries surveyed by the Pew Research Center, issued in March last year.

Mahboubi also said, although the United States is one of the top destinations for immigrants in the world, it is still lagging behind Canada when it comes to adding highly-skilled and educated foreigners. Both countries are facing an aging population, and with technological changes, employers are increasingly relying on foreigners with skills and talents.
