Prime Minister Abe arrived in Saudi Arabia, the country of the first visit to the Middle East, late on the night of January 11, Japan time. In a meeting with King Salman, we would like to encourage efforts toward dialogue with Iran to ease tensions in the Middle East, and to explain the purpose of dispatching the SDF and seek understanding.

Prime Minister Abe, who departed from Japan on November 11, will visit Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the United Arab Emirates, and the three Middle East countries of Oman to meet with the leaders of each country. Around this time, we arrived in Saudi Arabia, our first country to visit.

In Saudi Arabia, after a summit meeting with King Salman on the afternoon of the 12th of Japan time, he will travel to Ula in the northwest using a government aircraft to meet with Prince Mohammad.

In a series of talks, Prime Minister Abe exchanged opinions to ease tensions in the Middle East and stabilize the situation. I would like to explain the Japanese government's desire to do so and gain understanding and cooperation.

The Sunni power, Saudi Arabia, broke off diplomatic relations four years ago with Shiite power, Iran, and tensions have persisted since then. In this visit, it is important to call on neighboring countries to make diplomatic efforts, and I would like to encourage Saudi Arabia to engage in dialogue with Iran.
