Construction cranes, at Issy-les-Moulineaux (Hauts-de-Seine), April 1, 2019. - Clément Follain / 20 Minutes

  • "The sectors where the prospects are the strongest are building, construction, public works", insists Michel Cadot.
  • According to the regional prefect, "for the moment, subject to incidents or technical hazards, the schedule is maintained and correctly kept" for the Grand Paris express lines which must be put into service for the 2024 Olympic Games.

Grand Paris Express, 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games… Ile-de-France will change its face in the next four years. They will be marked by the development and acceleration of numerous projects requiring a greater human need. The prefect of the Ile-de-France region, Michel Cadot, details for 20 Minutes the job creation and recruitment system linked to these major infrastructure works.

Greater Paris and the 2024 Olympic Games are put forward to generate jobs in the coming years. What do you plan on recruiting in Ile-de-France?

Recruitment will obviously be supported thanks to the deployment of all the major projects that are underway and that will develop. All major projects will generate nearly 68,000 additional jobs by 2024 in Ile-de-France, in addition to normal renewals. The sectors with the strongest prospects are building, construction, public works. There will be, for example, as of 2020, 5,500 additional recruitments in the construction industry and 8,200 in 2021. There will be a period of major opportunities for employment and for the dynamism of businesses in Ile-de-France.

More specifically, what will be the profiles sought?

The identified needs and the trades which we know are already under stress and on which training capacities must be increased, are site managers, machine operators, site managers, road builders. Or the developing trades, where there are recruitment difficulties reported by companies and Pôle emploi. I am thinking of carpenters and reinforced concrete builders. But the challenge for the State, the regional council, is to identify these trades in this general context of development and to seek young people where the unemployment rate is high, to offer training and these jobs. with perspectives.

What budget does this represent for the region?

The overall cost of this skills investment plan, of training support to help meet this increase in the need for jobs, amounts to more than one billion euros in 2019- 2020. And amounts to more than five billion euros until 2024.

A year ago during your vows you said: "The Grand Paris express calendar will be kept". However, several metro lines may not be ready for the Olympic Games…

For the moment, there is no significant lag. There may be problems here and there at a station which may lead to a slight delay but overall what was planned by the calendar of the Olympic Games, i.e. line 15 south and line 16 until Bourget are required. Likewise for line 14 to Orly. So for the moment, subject to incidents or technical hazards, the calendar is maintained and correctly kept. But it is true that 2024 is approaching that there is still a lot of work to be done.

And regarding the infrastructure of the Olympic Games, where are we on the calendar?

The procedures are in progress. For the Olympic village, construction lots have been distributed. Regarding the Olympic swimming pool, there are small budget adjustment issues. On the other operations, for example the media village, there is no major subject of alert. The provisional calendar is correctly respected and controlled.
