• New Government: Pedro Sánchez dilutes Pablo Iglesias with three more vice presidencies
  • The protocol: A hard core of the PSOE and Podemos will lead the coalition in parallel to the Government

A dropper, Pedro Sánchez has begun to reveal the profiles of the structure of his new macrogovernment. Forced by the demands of the coalition that has locked with Pablo Iglesias, everything anticipates that it will be large, with about twenty portfolios among which there are no less than four vice presidencies.

It is true that not all calls to sit on the Council of Ministers will have the same political weight and, therefore, not all will require the same deployment of means but, in any case, the cost of the super Executive will skyrocket.

In France , to get an idea, the ministries are 17; in Germany , 14; and in Italy , 13. In Holland there are 16 and with a peculiar peculiarity: three portfolios have two ministers each and in this way the parties that make up the government coalition are content. It does not seem, however, a formula that can be transferred to Spain where the aroma of distrust among the power partners is remarkable.

It is still impossible to calculate how much it will cost the taxpayer to pay for an Elephantian Government. But the time will come. In the Treasury there are plenty of experts who will do it to the cent. At the moment, however, some clues can be provided for citizens to come up with the idea.

The salaries of the president of the Government, the vice presidents and the ministers will be the least. In Spain they do not reach 100,000 euros gross per year. More money is pocketed by the Secretaries of State - they oscillate between 110,000 and 125,000 euros - and it must be remembered that the more ministries the more state secretariats. In the event that these positions are filled by officials, the cost increase for public coffers is obviously lower.

Undersecretaries of State, 120,000 euros per year

The same happens with the undersecretaries , whose remuneration is around 120,000 euros, and the general directors , who move around 90,000 euros. Under secretaries there is one per ministerial department, but the directors and deputy general managers can be up to several tens. Most commonly, many of these positions are filled by career officials, but this is not always the case.

Then there is the list of advisors , usually trust positions at the finger. For example, the usual thing is that a vice president has eight or nine; a minister, with half a dozen; a secretary of state, with three or four, and a deputy secretary with at least two. The salaries of the advisors are around 50,000-60,000 euros gross per year.

Those who know well how the logistic framework of a government works point out that the issue of ministerial headquarters will probably be one of the minor problems. There are spaces. Vice President Nadia Calviño (Economy) will stay where she is; Vice President Carmen Calvo, too; Vice President Pablo Iglesias, predictably, will be located in the current headquarters of the Ministry of Health and there, even, there are those who say that the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, could also be installed. The fourth vice president is for Teresa Ribera, who could also remain at her current headquarters.

However, and even if it seems minor, it is not necessary to spend on posters, signs, office supplies of all kinds with their own letterhead, cards and advertising designs for each ministerial department. And by the way, each minister will have the right to request housing.

Housing and car with driver

Some of the current ministries have an apartment, better or worse, so that the owner if he wishes so occupies it. But not all of them, so if the minister on duty requests it, the residence must be paid.

Mobile park spending will also have to be accounted for. The president, vice presidents, secretaries of state and heads of cabinet are entitled to their own official car, with the corresponding drivers taking turns. The general directors, who are a legion , must request it when they require it for work displacements and they are provided one of a common park. This is a measure established at the stage of Mariano Rajoy that, however, would have to be perfected to avoid abuses and a very high cost in paying overtime to drivers.

These are some examples for calculations. A guide, approximate and imprecise, but serves to predict since the new government will not be austere and cheap.
